Collection: Annette Elizabeth Sykes

Hi, I am Annette Elizabeth Sykes.  I am an mixed media contemporary artist, fascinated by bare trees, light, atmospheres and archeological sites.

Born in Higham Ferrers, Northants, England, I went to the Wellingborough High School for Girls and then on to Coventry College to study Art and Sculpture, but left early. I worked as a screen print designer, then went on to study Textile Design and Embroidery; and subsequently earning a degree in Education and Teaching. I now work from my own studio to which visitors are most welcome. Creativity. A new world of excitement.

Run your fingers over the silky surface of my powerful, mixed media art created by the call and response of texture, transparency, opacity and colour, a new delight for me, a recent step towards totally spontaneous creativity. A new world of excitement.

I worked as a printmaker for over 20 years, spending many hours cutting plates, delighting in the process. Then the removal of a lobe of my lung enforced a break, giving me the opportunity to have a re-think and I realised that printing removed me one step from the thoughts which had inspired me, so I have now returned to my roots.
